Careful support before, during and after surgery

Routine & Advanced Pet Surgery

Our veterinary teams perform routine and more involved operations in dedicated theatres across our practices. We’ll explain your pet’s procedure, anaesthetic plan, pain relief and recovery so you know what to expect.

Surgical Care with Your Pet’s Safety at the Centre

Operations are performed Monday to Friday in our dedicated theatres. Most patients are able to return home the same day, depending on the procedure and how they recover.

We recommend pre-anaesthetic blood testing where appropriate to help assess and minimise risks associated with anaesthesia and surgery. Your vet or nurse will discuss this with you on a case-by-case basis.

As standard, we provide intravenous fluids and monitor blood pressure, ECG and temperature during anaesthesia. Heated operating tables help keep pets warm, and a qualified veterinary nurse monitors them throughout before they recover in a warm, quiet area.

Advanced Surgical Services for Referring Vets

Alongside routine surgery, Live Well Vets also provides referral-level procedures including advanced soft tissue surgery led by Dr Rebecca Reilly, orthopaedic surgery for complex cases such as cruciate ligament surgery and fracture repair, and advanced ophthalmic care and surgery through our Eye Clinic led by Dr Ross Neethling.

Where appropriate, pets with known or suspected heart concerns can also be assessed by Sandra Regada, who provides advanced cardiology and heart scanning, helping us gather additional information before anaesthesia.

What to Expect When Your Pet Has an Operation

Pre-Anaesthetic Assessment

Your vet will review your pet’s health, the planned procedure and any factors that could affect anaesthesia, including whether pre-anaesthetic blood testing is recommended.

Anaesthesia and Monitoring

We use intravenous fluids and monitor blood pressure, ECG and temperature during anaesthesia, with a qualified veterinary nurse monitoring your pet throughout.

Dedicated Theatre Care

Operations are performed in dedicated theatres with heated operating tables to help keep your pet warm while they are under anaesthesia.

Recovery and Home Care

Most patients go home the same day. We’ll explain pain relief, feeding, exercise, wound care and any follow-up appointments before your pet leaves us.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will my pet need to stay overnight after surgery?

Most routine surgical patients are able to go home the same day once they are awake, comfortable and recovering well. If your pet needs closer monitoring or a longer stay, we will discuss this with you. We may recommend transfer to our dedicated out-of-hours provider if an overnight stay is required.

Your vet or nurse will give you specific instructions before the procedure, including when to stop food and whether regular medication should be given. Follow those instructions carefully and contact us if anything changes before the appointment.
Yes. Alongside routine operations, Live Well Vets provides advanced soft tissue surgery, orthopaedic referrals and ophthalmic surgery through our referral services. Your vet can advise whether your pet is suitable for one of these services.
