Dental Care for Dogs, Cats and Rabbits

From routine dental checks to scale and polish procedures and extractions, our team helps protect your pet’s oral health. Dental appointments are available at Live Well Vets in Llantrisant, Caerphilly and Whitchurch.

Helping keep your pet’s mouth healthy and comfortable

Dental disease is common in pets, but they can be very good at hiding oral pain. Bad breath, visible tartar, red or bleeding gums, drooling, difficulty eating or a change in food preference can all indicate that something is wrong.

Regular dental checks help us identify problems and recommend appropriate care. Depending on your pet’s needs, this may include preventative advice, professional cleaning or removing damaged and painful teeth.

If treatment is recommended, we will explain what is involved and provide an estimate before proceeding.

Digital Dental X-Rays

We offer digital dental X-rays to give us a much clearer view of your pet’s teeth and the structures beneath the gumline.

Because a large part of each tooth sits below the surface, some dental problems cannot be seen during a visual examination alone. Digital X-rays allow our veterinary team to assess the tooth roots, surrounding bone and hidden areas of the mouth in much more detail.

This can help us identify problems such as damaged or infected roots, bone loss, unerupted teeth and other changes that may affect your pet’s comfort or the treatment they need.

Using dental X-rays alongside the examination helps us make more informed decisions during your pet’s dental procedure and ensures any treatment is based on what is happening both above and below the gumline.

Live Well Pet Club members receive 10% off eligible dental treatments, plus many more great benefits all designed to keep your pet healthy and happy.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my pet has dental problems?
Common signs include bad breath, visible tartar, red or bleeding gums, drooling, difficulty eating, dropping food, pawing at the mouth or becoming reluctant to have the face touched. Some pets show very few outward signs, so regular dental checks remain important.
A general anaesthetic allows the veterinary team to examine and clean every surface safely, assess below the gumline and take dental X-rays or remove painful teeth where required. We will assess your pet and discuss the individual anaesthetic plan beforehand.
Yes. Tooth brushing with pet-safe toothpaste is often the most effective option, although it needs to be introduced gradually. Our team can advise on brushing, suitable dental products and a routine that works for your pet.
